2-tier rack side for Moog semi-modular synthesizers
thingiverse
I've been wanting to rack my two Moog semi-modulars since I got the Subharmonicon earlier this year, but I just could not get over the high price of the Moog rack kits. I considered making larger wooden panels that would replace the original sides on both units, but I didn't have any large-enough (and sufficiently good-looking) pieces of hardwood on-hand. Also, I like the sparse metal-on-wood exoskeleton look of the official Moog kits and wanted to replicate that, so I decided to re-interpret the Moog designs and 3D print the parts. I am working with an Ender 3 printer, so I only have a print area about 8 inches on a side. With that constraint, I had to re-do the fastener attachment scheme. As shown, I'm using the rear two screws of the bottom unit and the top two screws of the top unit. When assembled, this feels perfectly sturdy. The two printed parts are sized so that their bottom surfaces are co-planar with the bottom of the rubber feet on the bottom synth. While this makes the assembly stable, the printed plastic is relatively slippery on my desktop.
