We're developing this project, and I wondered if a pipe flange could serve another purpose altogether. A couple of inches of ABS tubing can actually be secured directly into the flange using high-quality adhesive like epoxy. Note, however, that this makeshift assembly won't withstand even minimal pressure or stress at all.
