Scanning one face of a two-dollar coin at a 0.15 mm grid resolution took approximately eight hours to complete and generated around 42,000 points. The precision achieved by the probe is quite remarkable, given that it's a DIY setup utilizing some washers soldered onto a prototype PCB board and a sewing needle as the touch probe. To put this in perspective, the height of the letters on the coin is approximately 0.048 mm, which translates to one millimeter divided by twenty-one. This scan was conducted using a DIY three-dimensional printer equipped with Duet WiFi. A custom C++ program controls the 3D printer via Telnet over WiFi, exporting both an XYZ file and an STL file.
