2 Dollar coin
cults3d
Scanning one face of a $2 coin at a 0.15 mm grid resolution, it took roughly eight hours to complete and about 42,000 data points. The precision achieved by this probe is remarkable considering its homemade construction using washers soldered onto a prototype PCB board, along with a sewing needle as the touch probe. To put this into perspective, the height of letters on the coin measures approximately 0.048 mm, which is one twenty-first of one millimeter. This DIY 3D printer project utilizes a Duet WiFi system and features custom C++ programming that controls it through Telnet over Wi-Fi. The program generates both XYZ and STL files. A video showcasing its functionality can be viewed at https://youtu.be/9lPobTaEvIE. Remaining tasks include scanning the opposite side of the coin, although no specific timeline has been established for this endeavor.
