The octopus displayed is a dual-color, two-toned model specifically designed for 3D printing using dual extrusion technology. It was created through simulation of reaction-diffusion on a mesh, resulting in a visually textured design. The creators aimed to explore the capabilities of their Replicator 1 printer by producing such intricate models. To achieve this particular octopus print, they developed an app that applies reaction-diffusion simulations to any 3D model and generates two separate STL files for dual extrusion printing in two distinct colors. The final print was produced on a Replicator 1 at full size (5 inches across) with a layer height of .27mm.
