2-color Failproof Fidget Cube

2-color Failproof Fidget Cube

I've printed several dozen of muzehack's Failproof Fidget Cube (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2050830) for my niece's friends, and they adore them. I really like the model but think "failproof" is an overstatement at best. I wanted a two-color version, so I remixed it. I started by creating a 2x4 checkerboard mask in OpenSCAD. It looked fantastic when printed, but since the hinges were now made of two different plastics, they tended to break at the joints. So I gave each hinge-half several pegs that extended into the other half. I'm new at this so have no idea if this is the "right" way to solve this problem, but suspect it's not and that I was trying to be too clever by half. I suspect there's a simpler and more reliable way of achieving the same result, but again, I'm new at this.
