The USM standard has been around for several years now, designed to make it easy for any drive to match up with any plug. This standard exposes the bare SATA port on the drive, which can then be connected to various adaptors such as USB3 or Thunderbolt. This enclosure fits perfectly into this system, offering several key features: • It is USM compatible, meaning it will work seamlessly with any USM adaptor out there, including the Seagate thunderbolt adaptor and potentially even the ubiquitous USB3 - SATA plugs found on Ebay. • The design is tool-free, allowing it to be printed in a single print run on a 200x200 bed machine without needing any screws. It can also be disassembled with just your bare hands. • It is compatible with any 2.5" drive size up to 9.5mm. Simply scale the spacer up or down as needed, depending on the drive size. The spacer comes pre-set for 7mm drives by default. • The lid has sufficient thickness to emboss any text you like. • Two base models are included: one for drives with a metal shield surrounding them and one for bare drives. The metal shield is useful in cases where the adaptor uses a magnet to hold the drive securely, such as the Seagate Thunderbolt adaptor. Update: June 20th, 2017 Another spacer has been added, this time with a slightly trimmed end for use with metal shields that fold back over the drive, making it perfect for drives like the Samsung example in my photos.
