My workshop workspace desperately requires an efficient way to manage lighting and ventilation around the workbench and within the entire workshop area. Currently, the door is positioned conveniently near the workbench, but the workshop light switch is located halfway down the wall, making it extremely inconvenient to locate in low-light conditions. The workbench itself features white LEDs above, which are separately controlled at 12 volts, as well as a fan designed to blow away dust particles. Additionally, the environment has connectivity to my home automation system and includes a monitor displaying real-time data from a Pi, which would be ideal for automated on/off functionality when I'm working in the workshop. I have already designed a control panel that attaches to a box containing an ESP8266 chip and some relays. This setup includes: - An OLED screen connected to the ESP8266 to display temperature, humidity, and other relevant information. - A 10mm PIR sensor for local presence detection, which can be used to set on/off timers for monitors, lighting, fans, and other devices. - Four 20.2mm panel mount rocker switches with LED indicators: --Workshop light switch --Workbench fan control --Monitor on/off switch --Auxiliary power outputs (which may be added later) All of these features will provide feedback to the home automation system. To further enhance functionality, I plan to add a set of eight relays inside the box. These relays come on a compact board and can be switched from the ESP8266 outputs to 12V or 240V for the monitor. The switches will be isolated from the ESP8266 via optoisolators. The case design is 200mm wide, just shy of the Ender3 Pro print bed, and 44mm high, equivalent to a standard 1U rack mount height if I choose to do so in the future. This project is still in development, so updates will be provided as progress is made.
