This is how to drill the 30* section of the EGR pipe in a 1995 Toyota Landcruiser 1FZ-FE cylinder head, using just a hand drill and $10 worth of hardware. This DIY method can save you $100 compared to taking your vehicle to a machine shop. You'll need two M10x1.25 bolts and a 1/2" ID x 5/8" OD x 1.5" long metal sleeve. Since I could only get three-inch long bolts, I used spacers instead. You may want to harden the drill bushing if you plan on drilling multiple holes. This modification is necessary for foreign market non-egr heads that need to pass California smog tests. While there's a small chance of passing without doing this, it's not worth the risk. I used a smaller 1/2" bit than stock size to maintain the structural integrity of the head. The area between the EGR pipe and the mating surface is prone to failure, so I chose to use more aluminum and reduce heat transfer to prevent damage.
