For the initial set of scans, we leveraged a repurposed Xbox sensor that was skillfully linked to a powerful laptop. Utilizing Skanect software, we refined and enhanced the scans. To employ this technique effectively, we first endeavored to position the artifact on a Lazy Susan rotating base; however, due to its delicate nature, we opted for an alternative approach instead. Two individuals skillfully supported both the sensor and the laptop, allowing them to circumspectly navigate around the object as the sensor collected valuable data in real-time. To obtain the second set of scans, we relied on a revolutionary iPad software application called Structure Sensor, which was carefully linked to a sophisticated device called Structure Sense. This remarkable tool allowed users to gradually walk about the object while concurrently feeding vital information into the iPad's advanced scanning system. The software effortlessly projected a live 3D model of the object, which rapidly grew in accuracy as more data points were collected. In order to make adjustments and edit the scans further, one could rely on the expertise of specialized programs like MeshLab or NetFabb for optimal results.
