The interior of a steelworks that produced crucible steel from 1871 to 1943 in Darnall, Sheffield, UK is seen here. It was initially owned by Sanderson Brothers before being acquired by Sanderson Kayser. This view captures the east corner of the facility. A row of square indentations marks where the furnaces were positioned, each containing a crucible. Behind these furnaces are flues that lead up outside through the roof. On both sides of the flues, shelves were installed to warm crucible pots. Beyond the flues, the building walls can be seen, with the roof beams (mangled in this model) protruding between the flue stacks. The model has inadvertently omitted shelf brackets still present on the front wall of the flues. This model was created from photos taken on 19 September 2019 using Meshroom and Meshlab software. The visit to the site was organized by the Hunter Archaeological Society. The site is a Scheduled Monument; for more information, visit https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1247446 or look up other entries matching “CRUCIBLE STEEL SHOP IN SOUTH CORNER OF SANDERSONS KAYSERS DARNALL WORKS, DARNALL ROAD”.
