1999 Toyota Corolla Clock Panel Replacement
pinshape
I own a '99 Corolla where there used to be a blank piece of plastic above the radio in the center console, a spot usually occupied by a clock on higher trim levels. During stereo installation, I discovered that the plug for the clock was still intact and so was an unswitched 12v supply. Given the cigarette lighter's inconvenient location under the drink holder, I thought this would be a great place to install a 12v-USB charging connector for mobile devices. A newer radio upgrade added rear-mounted USB ports and an AUX in port, prompting me to replace the panel with one that fits snugly into its original spot but provides the features I need. I selected USB ports designed to transfer insertion force directly to their mounting panels, although I paid a steep price for them. The 3.5mm/1/8th inch audio jack for AUX in was more affordable and offered precise measurements for its required cutouts online. Photos show an early prototype of my project. This particular model holds significance as it's the first time I created a real-world item from scratch using a modeling app, modified it to fit specific needs, and then printed it with accurate dimensions.
