I've got a vintage 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that's been around for 26 years, so it's only natural that some parts are broken or missing. In my case, I was dealing with a cracked and separated coolant expansion tank cap under the hood. To hold it together temporarily, I used metal duct tape, but it wasn't pretty. Since I'm planning to sell this beauty soon, I decided to fix it for good. I thought about making an entirely new cap with threads, but that would require measuring them carefully, which can be a bit tricky. So, I came up with a different plan - gluing the broken cover back together using a UV liquid resin pen to hold the pieces in place. Once that was done, I created a cosmetic cover to attach over the original cap, making use of its existing threads. To give it a nice touch, I printed a design on top of the cover using my Ultimaker dual extruder S5 3D printer. Since I can print two colors, I went with black and white ABS, which should withstand the heat and humidity under the hood better than PLA. You can find the files for the cap and white inserts online - feel free to use them or modify them as you see fit! If you want to be bold, you could just print the cap part with recesses for the ring and letters, leaving the rest up to your imagination. Just a heads-up: I used a flexible adhesive to attach the cover to the repaired cap. Make sure to do your own research before using any of these materials under your vehicle's hood, as well as choosing the right adhesive for the job.
