1966 Ford GT40 simplified cnc/laser
thingiverse
The Ford GT40 Mk2, short for Gran Tourismo, dominated the "24 Hours of Le Mans" four consecutive times. Henry Ford II spearheaded its development as a response to Enzo Ferrari's abrupt termination of negotiations over Ferrari's sale to Ford. Using a desktop CNC machine from Stepcraft with a spiral-toothed 1.5 mm flute, I fabricated the components from 6.3 mm beech plywood. The axles were crafted from 5 mm beech rods, while vinyl washers ensured smooth tire movement. To achieve perfectly round tires, I secured an M5 bolt and attached it to a drill, mimicking the precision of a lathe. Subsequent sanding and edge rounding polished the surface. Considering the intricacies involved in this project, a laser cutter could be a suitable alternative for creating smaller-scale versions.
