1958 Edsel Rocker Trim Clip
prusaprinters

These rocker trim clips are based on the plastic clips used for a 1995 or above Ford Mustang but modified to fit the 1958 Edsel.

The Edsel originally included metal clips that would mount to the car first, then the trim would rest onto the clip and pressed firmly at the bottom to snap it into place. This method had very tight tolerances and could easily fall off, or be stolen.

This new clip design is very easy to install because you can use the existing mounting holes, or drill new ones with a 3/8" drill bit. The clips slide onto the rocker trim first and then you can hold the trim in position and adjust the clips to match the holes. Once aligned, you can start from the back and press the trim firmly in place. They provide a solid hold that will prevent theft.

If removal is necessary then the plastic can be flexed with enough force and will give. Needle nose pliers can be used to remove the clip from the car (may destroy the clip).

Tools needed:

3/8" or 10mm drill bit for the mounting holes

Drill (if holes are not already present)

Drill any holes needed about 31mm above the lowest part of the car. If holes are already present then reuse those.

Drill at least 6 holes evenly placed, but stop behind the door gap. No clips are needed under the quarter panel. The original Edsel included a butterfly clip under the quarter panel, but it's not needed for this.

Inspiration:

Mustang clips - https://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Ford-Rocker-Panel-and-Ground-Effects-Moulding-Clip-p/a20965.htm

Original Edsel clips - https://cgfordparts.com/ufolder/fordpart.php?number=2763

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

Ender 5

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

200

Infill:

20

Filament: Any ABS White

Notes:

Draft shield recommended.
Use ABS or PETG, no PLA for exterior materials. Lay on side for greatest strength when slicing (see provided images).

When printing, you may print multiple at a time to save time, but it's recommended to add one or two extras in case the edges lift. ABS prefers warm enclosures and no drafts.

Category: Automotive
