History: Zenith has been known for its innovative technology, including the first practical wireless TV remote control, Space Command, introduced in 1956. In 1950, Zenith released a wired version of the TV remote control, but it was soon met with complaints about the unsightly length of cable from the viewer's chair to the TV set. Cmdr. Eugene F. McDonald, Zenith's President and Founder, instructed his engineers to develop a wireless version, but they soon discovered that radio waves were not ideal due to poor interference rejection in 1950s radio receivers. In 1955, the Flash-Matic remote system was developed using a highly directional photo flash tube in the handheld unit that was aimed at sensitive photoreceivers in the four front corners of the TV cabinet. However, it was found that bright sunlight falling on the TV could activate the controls. Price: $9.00 Date added: August 6, 2015 Last update: December 20, 2015 Product id: 55c3592fccff75b0688b4782
