The Blower Bentley differed from the Bentley 4½ Litre due to engineer Amherst Villiers' addition of a Roots-type supercharger to its engine, despite W. O. Bentley, chief engineer and founder, refusing to modify the regular engine accordingly. Placed at the end of the crankshaft in front of the radiator, this supercharger gave the Blower Bentley its distinct look while also increasing understeer due to extra front-end weight. Both models shared protection measures for their fuel tank and carburetters. The Blower engine boasted unique features such as a crankshaft, pistons, and lubrication system. It produced 175 hp (130 kW) for the touring model and 240 hp (180 kW) for the racing version at 3,500 rpm and 4,200 rpm respectively, surpassing the Bentley 6½ Litre's power output.
