1927 Chevy Truck - prints with wheels / axles that turn
prusaprinters
This 1927 Chevy truck was very popular through about WWII. This model prints with the wheels and axles that turn. I designed some supports to minimize print time. If you include the slicer's supports, there will be much fewer strings to remove, but it will take about 3 more hours to print.Optional accessories are: Head lights Two shift levers (A single shift lever was a great design improvement in the truck design.) Each one moves into three positions. The base of each shift lever fits in a rectangular recess in the model's floor. Steering wheel. Doors that open/shut. They are hinged using a short wire in top and bottom.I printed the truck and options in various colors to make the easier to see in the photos. It took several design iterations to get to where everything fit together. The best door hinge material I found was a Christmas tree ornament hanger hook. Although they are flexible in their standard length, they are reasonably stiff when short. To install the doors, cut the top wire/hinge so it sticks out about 4 mm. Cut the lower one so that it is shorter than the lower door hinge hole. Put the upper hinge in the roof hinge hole, push the lower wire flush with the door bottom. It will fall out of its flush position when located over the floor hole.An easier, short term solution for the hinge design is to use a dab of rubber cement on the top and bottom of each hinge and no wires.I needed tweezers to set the transmission levers into the recess in the floor.I used a drop of hot glue to secure the head lamps into their receptacles.Do multiple design iterations indicate the author’s competence or lack there of?See also the smaller version of this truck in the competition.
