I created these custom grips for my Father-In-Law, who specifically wanted a particular grip style to complement his Caspian Arms 1911. This was my first major project using Autodesk Inventor, and I'm pleased with the result despite some room for improvement. My Father-In-Law loves the grips, and they look fantastic on his 1911. I'll try to get pictures from him showing the grips on his 1911. Print Settings: Printer: P802MA Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1 Infill: 80% Post-Printing: Step 1: Sanding I carefully sanded the grips with progressively finer grits of sandpaper: 150, 220, 320, and 400. When using the 150 grit initially with an old sanding sponge, some of the sand got stuck. After removing it and resanding, I discovered that this produced a weathered wood effect on parts of the grips. So, I inadvertently achieved a cool outcome from a mistake. Step 2: Priming Following sanding, I sprayed five coats of white primer onto the grips and lightly sanded again with 400 grit sandpaper. Step 3: Finishing Lastly, I applied five coats of satin finish and very lightly sanded the grips once more before wiping them clean with a soft cloth. How I Designed This Design Remix I successfully traced the Caspian Arms logo in Inventor using STP files provided by atooltoscream. After numerous failed prints and attempts to redesign the logo, I finally achieved something that looked good and printed well. The original Caspian Arms logo had too many small details that needed enlargement for printing purposes.
