This quality pack showcases three authentic adaptations of the M1841 12-pounder Howitzer or Canon obusier de 12 pounder. The pack includes two variants of each texture, modern and aged, offering a rich and detailed representation of this historic artillery piece. The three distinct adaptations are: Teal (Napoleonic Era) - a vibrant, ocean-inspired hue that evokes the early 19th century Golden (American Civil War) - a warm, sun-kissed tone reminiscent of the battlefield Black (Original) - a classic, sleek design that honors the cannon's origins Each adaptation is painstakingly recreated from historical blueprints, ensuring accuracy and authenticity. The cannon's development and widespread adoption during the American Civil War are testament to its enduring legacy. Historical Background The U.S. Army adapted the M1841 12-pounder in 1857 as the light 12-pounder M1857, a decision that would have far-reaching consequences. When the Civil War erupted, the cannon's simplicity allowed the Confederacy to replicate it, making the Napoléon a ubiquitous artillery piece. Wartime foundries produced over 1,700 Napoléons in total, with the North producing around 1,100 and the South around 600. The gun's effectiveness was so pronounced that General Robert E. Lee ordered all six-pounders in the Army of Northern Virginia to be melted down and recast as 12-pounders at Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, Va., in 1863. However, the November 1863 Union seizure of the Ducktown copper mines near Chattanooga, Tenn., severely limited Confederate production of bronze, forcing Tredegar to cast later models in iron.
