A 17th-century Spanish bronze cannon fragment (NUE1322244) believed to have originated from Mancera Island is currently under the care of Dirección Museológica Universidad Austral de Chile (DM UACh). The piece measures 27 cm in length, 26 cm in width, and 55 mm in thickness. An anthropomorphic face adorns this fragment, accompanied by a partially preserved Latin inscription that reads …A │ALEXO… This inscription is derived from the Latin name of ALEXO DE TEXEDA (Alejo de Tejeda), a founder based in Lima. The specimen exhibits apparent manufacturing flaws and can be interpreted as either a discarded item or the remnants of a burst cannon. Archaeologists Diego Carabias and Nicolás Ciarlo identified the artefact, with Ruth Brown, an artillery specialist, contributing to their research.
