$17 K40 laser quad smoke assist fan project
thingiverse
I wanted to boost my K40's performance with some added smoke assist, so I designed two essential components: a drilling template and a fan cover. Using Tinkercad and Inkscape, I created both items from scratch, remixing them from existing fan covers found on Thingiverse. To prepare the drilling template, I cut it out and taped it to the outside of my K40 case. The template will likely get destroyed during the drilling process, but that's okay. After cutting the holes, I used a file to smooth out the burrs on the edges. Next, I cut out the fan cover from acrylic and gave it a sleek finish by spraying the back with satin black paint. The fans arrived in just two weeks from China to South Carolina, USA. To enhance airflow, I'm running these fans alongside the stock exhaust fan that came with my K40. The stock fan got an upgrade thanks to 3D printed parts I designed and shared on Thingiverse (thing:3541519). Here's what I used for this project: * Four 4020 fans from AliExpress ($1.50 each) * A 38mm hole saw * 3mm screws, washers, and nuts that were lying around * Some scrap acrylic from an old arcade machine The fans are available on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/SXDOOL-SXD4020S12M-4020-40mm-fan-12V-0-12A-2-Pin-5-Blade-Cooler-Brushless-Mini-Cooling/32917801279.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.52e54c4daeJvgu The hole saw I used can be found on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G28F4ZF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
