16mm film splice guide
thingiverse
I was recently digitizing some old 16mm movies that date back to 1959 and have splices failing left and right. I needed a solution to create new splices that would feed through my trusty $25 Craigslist projector, as those pricey editing systems just aren't in my budget today. So, I took matters into my own hands. First, overlap both ends on this handy guide (pressing down ensures perfect alignment) and carefully slice with a razor blade. Next, use good old generic office tape to join the ends, making sure not to cover any of those critical sprocket holes. It's amazing how simple it is! I printed mine using glow-in-the-dark PLA, which just so happened to be on hand - isn't that cool?
