Chicago Title & Trust Center is a towering office building situated in the heart of Chicago, designed by the renowned architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. Prior to its completion in 1990, the striking twin tower design was awarded The Chicago Athenaeum's prestigious "Best Building" Architecture Award, which was graciously accepted by one of the lead designers, Kevin Flanagan. (View PLP Architects for more information.) Standing proudly at 756 feet tall with 50 floors, the magnificent structure rises in the Loop and was finally completed in 1992 on the site of Chicago's former Greyhound Bus Station. Before moving to their new tower in 1992, CT&T occupied a structure located at 111 West Washington, which later became known as the Burnham Center. The impressive new building is often simply referred to as the Chicago Title Tower. One of its most distinctive features is the eastern-facing slanted roof at upper levels, which adds a unique touch to the already impressive skyline. At night, the top of the building facing east and west is beautifully illuminated, making it an unforgettable presence on the Chicago skyline. Originally intended to have a twin tower located at 181 N. Clark Street, the plan was first dropped after the original completion of the first tower and then again in 2001 following the devastating 9/11 terror attacks. A multi-level parking structure currently occupies the space where the north tower may one day be constructed, and it boasts a basement-level pedway connection westward to the south-east corner of the James R. Thompson Center's food court.
