While conducting excavations in the Courtauld Gallery's basement as part of extensive renovations leading up to its reopening in 2021, we stumbled upon the remains of a medieval chalk-lined cesspit filled with an array of intriguing artifacts. This extraordinary discovery is significantly contributing to our understanding of Chester Inn, a previously poorly-documented 15th century residence associated with the bishopric of Coventry, Lichfield and Chester which once occupied the site now home to Somerset House. Further details can be found on the MOLA blog.
