15mm Rail Mount with Extension
thingiverse
This is a standard 15mm camera rail mount for use with video cameras or DSLRs. The rail mount was part of a project to build a teleprompter, which can be seen on our website and Thingiverse. It's built to industry standards and should work seamlessly with most off-the-shelf 15mm rail mount gear. The rails in the design (Drawing No.001021 250mm 15mm Support Tube) are 250mm long, a dimension that can be adjusted according to your needs. Initially, I designed the rail with a fixed back for stability and to hang a counterweight from if required. However, after reviewing the assembly, I realized it was surprisingly stable without the back, and removing it allows you to attach 15mm rail compatible parts to both the front and back of the mount. When using the teleprompter with a studio camera, the 15mm rail bracket can be used as is. When paired with a DSLR, however, the mount alone positions the camera too low for optimal operation. To resolve this issue, I designed a 43mm standoff that puts the DSLR at the right height. This design was specifically created for use with the PTP2 Teleprompter, available on Thingiverse.
