The DANA, a name that originates from dilo automobilni nabizen automaticky (gun on truck loaded automatically), is a wheeled self-propelled artillery piece that serves as a mobile gun howitzer platform. This artillery system is also known as the Samohybná Kanónová Húfnica vzor 77, or ShKH vz. 77 for short, and was designed by Konštrukta Trenčín with production handled by ZTS Dubnica nad Váhom in what was then Czechoslovakia but is now Slovakia. Introduced in the 1970s as the first wheeled 152 mm self-propelled artillery gun to enter service, it is based on a modified 8x8 Tatra 815 chassis that boasts excellent cross-country mobility. In comparison to tracked vehicles, wheeled vehicles offer significant advantages, including lower production costs and easier maintenance requirements. This makes them an attractive option for military forces seeking increased mobility. Tire pressure can be adjusted as needed to ensure optimal performance off-road, while power-assisted steering is provided on the front four wheels to enhance maneuverability. Prior to firing, three hydraulic stabilizers are lowered into position, providing a stable platform for the gun. A roof-mounted crane also aids in ammunition loading, making the process more efficient and effective. The crew of the DANA consists of five members: the driver controls the hydraulic stabilizers and operates from the front cabin, while the commander sits alongside. On the left side of the turret, the gunner aims the gun and opens fire, while the loader operator selects the correct amount of powder charges. Finally, the ammo handler sets the shells' primers on the right side of the turret.
