Flipper Robot: A Lightweight Combat Bot. This is a 150g robot built for combat, with a .STEP file attached for those who want to make modifications. The build process is straightforward and requires minimal tools. Wedges can be printed or cut from sturdy materials like 0.5mm Titanium or Plexi/Acrylic. Printed wedges are sufficient for flipping objects around the house, but may not withstand intense combat. There are two styles of top plates: a flat plate version and a thicker angled print. Assembly tips include heating nails with a lighter to create a tight fit when inserting them into printed arms. A drop of superglue can also secure the nails in place. The body and lifter linkage holes should have loose fits for the nails, allowing them to rotate freely. Nail spacers are used to keep the servo linkage from moving excessively laterally on the nail. A paper clip is used to attach the flipper to the servo arm, with excess removed after bending. The Lego hub has tolerances that allow it to print easily and fit snugly, but a tighter tolerance version can be attached if needed. #4 Plastite screws are recommended for most parts, but #3 screws may be used for the top brace and panels. Bill of Materials: Hardware: * 1 qty 2" Brad Nail * 2 qty 3/4" or 1" Brad Nail (available at Amazon) * Small Zip Ties * Paper Clip * HotGlue/Superglue * 4-20 Plastite Screws (available at Amazon) * 3-24 Plastite Screws (available at Amazon) * Wheels: Lego 24x14 Tire (available at Amazon) Electronics: * Flipper Servo: KST DS215MG V3 * Drive Motors: N20 Micro Gearmotor 30:1 or 1000rpm (available at Amazon) * ESC: Endbots DESC or Budget DESC (available at Endbots) * RX: Spektrum receiver (included with Endbots DESC) * TX: Spektrum DX6 (available at Amazon) * Battery: Nano-tech 300mah 2S Lipo Pack (available at HobbyKing) Note: Any micro servo will work, but may limit flipping power. For this reason, the recommended servos are linked above, but a cheaper servo can be used for testing first. You can purchase alternative wheels to save weight if needed, although Lego wheels work well and are much cheaper.
