14th-century Copper Alloy Seal
sketchfab
A copper alloy seal matrix from the 14th century was unearthed at Bedwin Street in Salisbury, where Vanner's Chequer once stood. This circular seal boasts a distinctive hexagonal conical handle ending in a trefoil loop. A Lombardic legend encircles a heraldic shield displaying an animal, likely a boar. The inscription S' P DEBREIYER ROG suggests it belonged to P DEBREIYER, whose surname may stem from the verb breier, meaning "to crush herbs in a mortar." Alternatively, ROG could be part of a place name or refer to Rogator, a Latin term for lawyer. This seal likely once belonged to a French heraldic gentleman who visited Salisbury and lost it. The artifact was scanned using an Artec Spider scanner.
