A millionite is a rock with fine to coarse grain, foliated and frequently granoblastic (although this can only be observed under a microscope at times), formed by milonitization, a type of dynamic metamorphism, in which the grain size of a rock is decreased by ductile shear. Milonitic rocks display a marked planar and linear internal structure called foliation and lineation, which is parallel to the fault zone. These rocks are formed as a result of mineral grain recrystallization during rapid ductile deformation in zones of varying thickness from centimeters to dozens or hundreds of meters. Milonitization occurs at depths greater than 10 km below the Earth's surface. It presents under conditions of high pressure and low temperature.
