Making Your Own 13mm Socket from Scratch I realized I was without a crucial 13mm socket around the house and decided to try fabricating one using my 3D printer instead of buying one at the hardware store. To my delight, the DIY project turned out exceptionally well. My prints were executed at an accuracy of 0.3 millimeters with complete infill for added durability. The smart move here was to split the design into two separate pieces which negated the need for pesky support materials during printing. Finally, all it takes is some basic epoxy glue and these two halves get locked in seamlessly, ready to tackle tasks as if a pro manufactured it. Additional update: A subsequent version of this design came out where you can print it in one complete piece without breaking up into sections, perfect for simplicity lovers like me. This modified 3D printed socket boasts a clever design tweak - a pre-drilled hole at the center so that an existing screw can fit smoothly inside. Many screwdrivers now possess a magnetic component which makes getting screws stuck without a specific hole frustratingly hard, and that's why this extra little touch here greatly boosts practical usability for such projects going forward.
