I've collected trains for years, but I recently stumbled upon an old 1950s Hornby tin plate engine in a charity shop, and the price was too good to pass up. It brought back memories of the engines my siblings had given me when I was younger, which I used to lovingly restore by oiling their motion, quartering their wheels, and re-pinning broken springs. In primary school, I would often fix other kids' trains for them, usually just oiling them to get them moving again. But sometimes, I'd be asked to remove the backs of tank engines so they could access the cabs inside or loosen the tags holding the smoke box doors in place. So it was no surprise when I found this engine missing its parts and maybe even a little karma. Now, I'm wondering what to do next: should I wait for a cheap body to show up on eBay and use it as spare parts, or design my own using 3D printing? Here's where I am with my current restoration project - I've extended it to replace things like wagon wheels and even entire tenders. I've put together a series of prints that I'll gradually add to over time. Some of the items I've modeled, such as the Special Locomotive Wheels, are based on internet pictures and might be slightly off in size - any feedback would be appreciated. The tender project is based on a real 1949 draughtsman plan for B12, D16, J18, J19, and J20 classes, which features a single filler cap instead of the later twin cap 3700-gallon design by Thompson/Gresley. Yeadon's Register says only one B12 used a 3450-gallon tender, but both 3700- and 3450-gallon variants look similar. Since I also want to create an OO B12/3 Tender, I'll make another 3700-gallon tender. I've added new GER 12-spoke wheels for my LNER-style 3450-gallon tender and 10-spoke wheels for the 3700-gallon version: GER 12 Spoked Tender Wheel.stl GER 12 Spoked Tender Center Wheel.stl LNER 10 Spoked Tender Wheel.stl LNER 10 Spoked Tender Center Wheel.stl To build a complete model tender, you'll need: 1.
