13" Dust collector Blower Fan Assembly
thingiverse
My Uncle built a massive dust collector for his workshop but he consistently struggled with the fan assembly made of wood. He complained about balance problems and short-lived fan assemblies. Determined to tackle the challenge, I decided to create a fan assembly that would meet his requirements. I designed the entire fan assembly in one .stl file initially. However, printing it at 13 inches was impossible due to my print bed's limitations. I considered using online printing services but was shocked when they quoted around $2K for the job. Therefore, I re-designed the fan assembly to be printed in smaller pieces that could be assembled later. All the components will fit on a 230 x 150 x 150 mm build platform. I included the original full fan design as an option for individuals with large build plates and ample printing time. The fan is engineered to be mounted on a 5/8ths shaft. Two versions of the center shaft that holds the blades are available - one with 8 blades and another with 16 blades. I primarily printed the 8 blade version due to the lengthy print time, approximately 3 hours and some change per set of blades. The entire assembly took around 48 hours to complete. After printing, perform a dry fit of all components to ensure a smooth assembly, and then glue them together. I'm unsure how useful this design will be for others but I thought it was worth sharing with the community as a lighthearted contribution.
