12v Trigger Relay Outlet

Warning: Working with electricity can be hazardous, so exercise extreme caution. Never attempt to wire while exposed to a live electrical source. This project requires a basic understanding of electronics and safety protocols. I'm using a vintage amplifier that lacks a 12v trigger line and remote control, which is why I've opted for a 12v trigger relay from my receiver to switch power. Power is fed in through an IEC cable and out through a 3-prong outlet. Assemble all the components without using screws, which will help ensure that wiring is properly routed. I've added a heatsink to the relay, attaching it to the back with thermal tape. Make sure the fins are oriented horizontally for airflow. 2. Solder together the wire ground and neutral from both outlets using the larger gauge wire. 3. Create two wires with female terminals using the larger gauge wire to connect the outlet hot pins to the relay's switched output. 4. Connect one end of the 3.5mm cable to the trigger pin on the relay, and the other end to the ground (and barrel together if stereo). 5. Test the 12v trigger by plugging in a source using the 3.5mm cable. Verify that there's continuity on the hot line and no crossed or shorted wires. 6. Secure the lid before testing with mains connected. 7. Plug in power to the box, but don't connect any devices. Test the output power. 8. Enjoy your switched outlet.
