12V Power Supply Cover with Switch Hole
thingiverse
I'm fed up with constantly unplugging the power cord from my printer. I decided to take matters into my own hands and purchased a power switch from Amazon. To give it a sleek look, I designed a custom cover around my power supply. Additionally, I wanted to be able to power my Raspberry Pi running Octoprint without an extra power plug, so I wired in a 12V to 5V converter with a USB female port. The result is a professional-looking setup. To make it easy to install, I made sure the switch opening is accessible from both sides of the cover, allowing me to place the switch in whatever orientation suits my build best. My power supply is mounted on the left side, but I've seen many others with it on the right. The extra opening also helps guide cables from nearby Z motors. To secure the cover to the power supply, I recommend using M4x3 screws. If you want to replicate this setup, be sure to check out the links below for the parts I used: Power Switch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00511QVVK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 12V to 5V Converter:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O6R9PCC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Wiring the switch requires attention to detail. Note that the wiring on the switch does not match what's labeled on the back, and if you get it wrong, you risk damaging your Arduino or RAMPS by applying negative voltage. I verified my work with a multimeter before completing the setup. Here are the print settings I used for this project: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer Model: Prusa i3 Raft Settings: Doesn't matter Support Settings: Yes
