Print Your Own 12th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Replica Based on the "Hell Bent" Episode. Designed using Tinkercad, this project is a heavily modified version of a build by user kightblade77. The design is optimized for FDM printing and can be easily printed with your own Printrbot Play or similar printer. You can find the original kits at Amazon, but if you want to save money, check out Character-Online's Personalize Your Own Sonic Screwdriver Inner Unit. If you're looking for a cheaper option in the USA, please let me know! All the pieces are interchangeable, so if you already own two other kits, you can create five handles, five button sections, and ten ends that can be used on top or bottom. I successfully printed three of these designs using Hatchbox PLA. Initially, I tried printing the light blue translucent emitter with ABS, but after multiple failures, I switched to translucent white PLA. To improve printability, I made several design changes. First, I split the blue and silver components into separate printable parts. This reduced support structure needed. Then, I broke down the silver into two rings, four bars, and a cage for the handle. The more pieces I used, the cleaner the final design looked. To assemble your replica, use a Silver and Gold Sharpie to paint the details, super glue for bonding, translucent white or blue for the emitter, dark blue (Tardis blue) for large components, and silver for remaining parts.
