12th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver
thingiverse
My latest endeavor is to create a replica of the Twelfth Doctor's iconic sonic screwdriver from "Hell Bent". After taking a glance at some images from online sources, I got an urge to model this fascinating gadget and showcase it. I understand that this project features numerous components; for the sake of clarity, I divided it into separate parts in order to minimize printing complexities and optimize layer adhesion during painting. Although separating latches might add complexity, using a pre-fabricated version appears a more time-consuming task but yields fewer quality compromises. While my design is partially hollow inside for easier inclusion of electronics if needed, two removable panels have been incorporated allowing the electronics compartment to be modified with increased accessibility. Additional 3D printing elements comprise five acrylic rods measuring 5mm in diameter and short segments of brass wire measuring 2mm in diameter. Please note that unless opting for unibody versions of latches these elements will still be needed, refer to detailed documentation provided below. Before painting commences it's recommended that users lightly sand the parts down in order to eliminate layer imperfections. This sonic screwdriver design is perfect for individuals interested in precision modeling with three-dimensional printing techniques. When working on this 3D printed replica keep in mind it may initially appear a little difficult since every piece needs proper calibration. For optimal results simply go through manual process of smoothening each separate item by utilizing tools necessary for removing all unwanted residue layers created during printing. I built the model from scratch based entirely off information provided online. The primary sources were pre-production diagrams along with images taken by people interested in recreating actual replicas which helped create my rendition as accurate as possible
