12cm/120mm fan shroud (for DIY swamp cooler)
thingiverse
I built this 12CM fan shroud to boost efficiency (in somewhat vague, uneducated theory) and at the very least, to help center the wet/soaking media tower in my DIY 5-gallon-bucket swamp cooler accurately. I have no idea whether it increases effectiveness of the evaporative cooler due to aerodynamics, since A. I don't know much about aerodynamics and B. I haven't conducted any A/B testing yet. However, it definitely helps keep the cooling tower properly centered within the bucket and aligned under the fan, so 100% of the air from the fan passes through the cooling media rather than blowing to the outside of the tower and straight out the exhaust vents. Who knows, someone might find this helpful. If you're building a DIY swamp cooler from a 12CM fan and a 5-gallon bucket, I highly recommend it. By the way, the 12CM, 12V "Delta" fan visible in these photos is an extremely powerful, 12V fan. Highly recommended if airflow and static pressure are your top priorities, and noise is not a concern. I've never seen such a small fan move so much air before.
