123D Design Chain Kit
thingiverse
This kit enables you to create 3D printed chains of various sizes. Included are files for 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm radius chains, each consisting of a circle of links that can be arranged to produce chains of any length. To assemble the chain, lay out each link at a 90-degree angle to its neighbors, ensuring they do not intersect one another. Once printed, the chain will articulate freely. To edit these files, you'll need access to 123D Design, which can open .123dx files directly. Alternatively, you can use your preferred program to edit the .stl files. These chains require no supports for proper printing. As examples of each size and type, I've included printable files with "example" in their titles. The idea for this kit originated while designing a dog waste bag holder, inspired by a waste bag clip available on Thingiverse (thing:1702765). Version 2 updates the .STL and .123dx files to place all objects at the printing plane, ensuring they can be printed directly from the files without issue. Additionally, I've added a 4mm to 2mm reduction link in both .stl and .123dx formats. Version 3 introduces 10mm files and an accompanying example for this new size.
