The 122 mm howitzer M1938 (M-30) was a Soviet 121.92 mm weapon that fired a 4.8 inch howitzer. The Soviet Union's design bureau at Motovilikha Plants, led by F. F. Petrov in the late 1930s, developed this powerful artillery piece. Mass production of the M-30 began in 1939 and continued until 1955. In World War II, the Red Army (RKKA) used the M-30 as a divisional artillery gun to devastating effect. After being captured by German forces, some guns were later employed by the Wehrmacht against their Soviet counterparts. The Finnish Army also utilized these powerful howitzers in battle. Following World War II, the M-30 continued to see action in numerous conflicts around the world, particularly in the Middle East where it served as a valuable asset for various countries' armies.
