A surface mount dimmer switch comes in a box that can be installed anywhere. Walls are only 3 millimeters thick. The total height of the box, without the switch, measures 43 millimeters. The outer measurements of the dimmer are 85 millimeters by 85 millimeters. The dimmer is recessed about 3 millimeters into the box and secured with four screws (please see the picture and dimensions in the attached screenshot).
