This stand is designed to hold a small DC/DC converter for adjusting fan speed. A 120mm fan makes a great desk top fan. The fan grill was sourced from thing:377600. Instructions BOM: * Screws, Machine, 6-32, 2", Qty 6 * Nuts, 6-32, Qty 8 * Washers, #6, Qty 12 * Screws, Wood, #4, 0.5", Qty 4 * A minimum of 1A AC/DC Power Supply rated for 12V * DC/DC converter (http://www.amazon.com/RioRand-LM2596-Converter-1-23V-30V-Pcs-LM2596/dp/B008BHB4L8/ref=sr_1_3) * A 120mm fan (http://www.mpja.com/12VDC-4-11_16in-Square-X-1-1_2in-Japan-Servo-Box-Fan/productinfo/18222%20FN/) * Potentiometer, 10k, 1/4", single turn, with stop and On/Off Switch (taken from an old FRS radio) * Approximately 1ft of 24AWG Wire Disconnect the potentiometer from the DC/DC converter. Add short leads to the 1/4" pot, connecting them to the location where the pot was originally situated on the converter, ensuring proper wire orientation. Attach a short lead to the On/Off switch on the pot. Tie strain relief not in the lead coming from the AC power supply. Connect the (+) lead from the 12V DC power supply to the other post on the potentiometer's On/Off switch. Solder the lead from the potentiometer to the DC/DC converter's (+) input. Connect the (-) lead from the 12V DC power supply to the DC/DC converter's (-) input. Tie strain relief not in wire coming from the fan. Solder the red lead from the fan to the (+) output of the converter. The leads may be shortened, but make sure they are long enough to reach the fan when it is installed on the adjustable arms. Solder the black lead from the fan to the (-) output of the converter. The yellow lead is unused. Pass the potentiometer through the hole in the control box and tighten a nut onto its cover, making sure not to overtighten it. Mount the DC/DC converter onto pegs on the 3D printed base, carefully melting the top of the pegs with a soldering iron to secure the converter in place. Install the fan grill, fan, and fan support plate using four screws and nuts. Install the arms onto the fan support plate by placing double washers between each contact of the plastic and one washer at each end of the screw. Tighten a nut onto the screw until the tension properly supports the fan. Add another nut to the screw and tighten it snugly against the first nut, securing the first nut in place. Mount the bottom arms to the base using the same process used for installing them on the fan support plate. Carefully route the wires so that they enter into the control box through its cutouts. Place the box onto the base and secure it with the four wood screws from underneath the base of the fan.
