This is a 120mm fan adapter for a Brocade ICX6450 switch. It's designed for the 24-port switch, which has two fans (the 48-port POE switch might have three fans). My switch already has the internal fans modified to use quieter-than-stock fans, but I found it would occasionally still spin up to speed 2 from time-to-time. With this adapter piggybacked, it runs about 10 degrees cooler on speed 1, and never needs to go to speed 2. This can piggyback over existing fans and that's how I'm running it in the picture. The two internal fans are powered by the switch internally. I'm powering the external 120mm fan from a separate 12V wall wart. You could probably eliminate the internal fans in favor of using only the external fan, but you may need to take some steps to ensure the switch doesn't get mad about about missing fans. The adpaters are designed to be used with M3 heat-set threadserts. You can buy these from eBay, heat them up with your soldering iron, and press into place. You'll need a total of 8 threadserts (four to mount the fan to the reducer, and four to mount the reducer to the bracket. The bracket attaches to the switch with 3M sticky tape.
