This vibrant blue glass game piece is topped with a circle of gleaming white beads. It's most likely the King from a set designed for playing a variant of 'tafl' - a family of games popular in Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Denmark and Sweden which originated from the ancient Roman wargame Ludus Latrunculorum. The discovery was made during a community-led archaeological excavation on Lindisfarne, coordinated by DigVentures and Durham University.
