120 Staryu Dual Low-Poly
thingiverse
Pokémon 120 Staryu Dual Extrusion Low Polygon Prints in one piece without supports, thanks to a clever design that eliminates the need for any extra hardware. I've also included a single extruder version of this model, perfect for those who prefer simplicity. A sturdy stand is included with the model, which might require some careful maneuvering to insert Staryu's feet correctly due to its slightly off-vertical stance and wider-than-usual toes. However, once you get it right, it fits snugly in place – at least when printed at 165% scale. My girlfriend, however, had a different idea: she wanted to be able to hang this beautiful creature on the wall alongside my other prints. So, I added a small angled notch on the back for a nail to hold it securely in place. The gem atop Staryu's head can be customized with three different colors if you have the capability to pause your slicer at specific layers or manually adjust the settings (though I wouldn't recommend that approach). Alternatively, you could print the gem as a separate model and glue it on later – but where's the fun in that? I'm a big fan of printing large models, so when this one was printed, it measured 6cm tall and nearly 19cm wide. The settings used were five shells with 0.4W x 0.2H dimensions and 5% infill to accommodate the constant 10cm bridging required for my scale. I haven't printed the single-color version yet, but it should yield similar results without the extra walls between parts. Although this low-poly model looks fantastic as is, I'm considering creating an even more simplified design for the gold part – mainly because it looks so authentic that I'm hesitant to alter it. And let's be honest, it already looks too awesome to redo! As for filament recommendations, I'm a fan of using CC3D Silk Copper, CC3D Silk Gold, Ziro Twinkling Bright Red, or MatterHackers Build Series Royal Blue – they all produce stunning results with this model.
