11.Hornby O Gauge LNER 3500 Gallon Locomotive Tender
thingiverse
I've accumulated quite a collection of trains over the years, but recently, I stumbled upon an old 1950s Hornby tin plate engine at a charity shop for a price that was impossible to ignore. It brought back memories of the engine my siblings had inherited from their father many years ago and my quest to fix it, which involved oiling the motion, quartering the wheels, and re-pinning the broken spring. As a kid in primary school, I used to help my friends with their trains by oiling them out of their seized state. Occasionally, they asked me to remove the backs from tank engines for better access to the cabs and loosen the tags holding the smoke box door in place to reach the boiler inside. No surprise that this engine was missing those parts, and maybe it's just karma! Now I'm faced with a decision: wait for a cheap body to pop up on eBay to cannibalize or design my own for 3D printing? I've been working on restoring an old train set, replacing things like wagon wheels and even complete tenders. Here are the results so far: I've created a series of prints that I'll add to over time... Some of the items I've modeled, such as the Special Locomotive Wheels, were based on internet photos and might be slightly off size; any feedback on these details would be great. The tender project is based on a real 1949 vintage draughtsman plan for B12, D16, J18, J19, and J20 classes. It uses a single filler cap instead of the later twin cap 3700-gallon design by Thompson/Gresley. According to Yeadon's Register, only one B12 used a 3450-gallon tender, number 8578, although both 3700- and 3450-gallon variants look identical. Since I also want to create an OO B12/3 Tender, I'll eventually produce a 3700-gallon tender. Sorry for changing the file name again! I've added new GER 12-spoke wheels for my LNER-style 3450-gallon tender and 10-spoke wheels for the 3700-gallon version: GER 12 Spoked Tender Wheel.stl GER 12 Spoked Tender Center Wheel.stl LNER 10 Spoked Tender Wheel.stl LNER 10 Spoked Tender Center Wheel.stl For a complete model tender, you'll need: Hornby O Gauge Locomotive Tender 1 x LNER 3450 Gallon Tender.stl Hornby O Gauge Locomotive Tender Wheels 3 x Axle Spacer.stl 4 x GER 12 Spoked Tender Wheel.stl 2 x GER 12 Spoked Tender Center Wheel.stl Hornby O Gauge Tender Detail Kit 6 x Tender Axle Block.stl 1 x Tender Brake Handle.stl 1 x Tender Coal.stl 2 x Tender Loco Buffer.stl 2 x Engine Side Tender Buffer.stl 1 x Tender Step Front LH.stl 1 x Tender Step Front RH.stl 1 x Tender Step Rear LH.stl 1 x Tender Step Rear RH.stl Hornby O Gauge Tender Spray Template 1 x Spray Template [your choice of style] 1 x Axle Cutting Gauge.stl Plus 3 x 55mm length 2.5mm diameter steel axles (60 cut from 20 lengths of Stainless Steel 170x2.5mm Transmission Round Rod on eBay) With more experience building a prototype 3450-gallon tender, I've added a variant with steps front and rear but kept the stepless version in place...
