10mm LED fibre optic coupler
thingiverse
Connecting a small LED like SparkFun's "Fiber Optic LEDs - LED Strip" (#11118) to a series of thin glass fibers is quite feasible. You can use heat shrink tubing to affix the fiber to the metal lead wires inside your breadboard, which then plug into a power source that feeds directly to the LED light on the other end, producing a dazzling display. The process is easy: you need to melt the heat shrink onto each individual filament with a soldering iron or small flame torch until it shrinks around its new position on either side. Once everything has cooled down completely after being placed onto some protective paper plates within reach near enough that all necessary tools were easily accessible at this moment when needed again during step four, cut off excess lengths sticking outside using regular household scissors afterward.
