108 Years of Retreat at Rabots Glaciär
sketchfab
Rabots Glacier sits majestically within the Kebnekaise massif, Sweden. On July 23, 1910 and August 5, 2018, this glacier was captured in stunning photographs. After its initial photographing in 1883, Rabots Glacier has been relatively well studied. It's located just a short walk from Tarfala Research Station, established in 1945, and is part of the Swedish glacier monitoring program. This glacier stands out due to its current rate of melting and its early 1900s size, indicating a more volatile behavior compared to its neighboring glaciers. Here, some of these aspects are highlighted. Check out Rabots Glacier on Google Maps. View photo comparisons since 1910. These results are part of a research paper scheduled for publication in 2019. The 2018 model was created from 67 oblique helicopter images taken approximately 600 meters above the ground and processed using Agisoft PhotoScan. The 1910 model was made from ten terrestrial photographs in PhotoScan, captured by Fredrik Enquist, who used manual triangulation of rocks on the glacier to achieve accurate results.
