101st ABN Patch

101st ABN Patch

The 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, Kentucky gets its patch here. This particular file is a bit too big for most printers and requires scaling down to get a neat, printer-friendly version. In making this patch more suitable for printouts, I made a tweak that got the attention of fellow enthusiasts - changing up the Airborne logo tab's appearance by replacing the thin border in the original image with a bolder, thicker one. Instructions: Here's what it takes to make this file a reality. To start off, I brought in the image into Inkscape where I then converted it over to paths. From there, it got exported out as an .SVG file. This new .svg was subsequently imported into 123D Design - and what did we get? A beautiful three-dimensional design where I went ahead and extruded all levels with some flair. Next up, it was time to export the newly designed item over as a sturdy .STL file. Unfortunately, at this point in the process our model was still running rather large - so in an attempt to tame the beast down and get everything ready for a successful printout run I went ahead and used Blender's built-in 'Add Modifier: Decimate' tool to trim things down into more of a manageable size.
