1010 Rail Guides for Model Rockets
thingiverse
Updated 4/23/16 Includes guides for BT-60, BT-70, BT-80 and 3" body tubes. Increased access to 3D printers and student participation in Team America Rocket Challenge is leading to more 3D printed parts appearing and teams looking for printed parts to use. Created an STL file for rail guides fitting 1010 launch rails available at the TARC Nationals, sized to match a BT-80 tube size, able to be contoured sanded to fit BT-70. Testing shows that with a properly mounted PLA print, you will destroy the body tube before the guide fails. Take standard procedures for gluing plastic to paper: use coarse sandpaper to contour sand glue surface and remove surface residue, lightly sand body tube to remove glassine layer, and make small holes in body tube with map pin to ensure epoxy has greater attachment. Stick a straight edge in gap to align guides. Print Settings: Printer: Wanhao Duplicator i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .200 Infill: 100% Notes: Printed vertically for best profile, 12 at a time. How I Designed This: Designed these using published dimensions for rail buttons in Onshape. Made a sketch with published dimensions and then extruded to length.
